Stir as cops wear saffron scarves to Diggy’s rally

first_imgA huge controversy erupted in Bhopal on Wednesday during Computer Baba’s roadshow in support of Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh as dozens of police men and women in civil clothes walked along with sadhus sporting saffron bands.Organised by Computer Baba, real name Namdeo Das Tyagi, the roadshow passed through the narrow lanes of old Bhopal and comprised thousands of sadhus who were in Bhopal to campaign for Digvijaya Singh against Pragya Thakur of the BJP.”The roadshow was organised in support of a real Hindu that is Digvijaya Singh who has done a Narmada Parikrama of over 3000km on foot. The sadhus came to support him because the BJP has fielded a person who is an accused in a terror case and has been arrested in connection with the murder of her partner in a terror case by none other than the BJP government and she calls herself a sadhvi. The roadshow was to expose this sadhvi and I do not have any idea about policemen wearing saffron bands,” Computer Baba said. The Bhopal police denied that any of its officers sported a saffron band. “Policemen were doing their duty in uniform. No policeman sported a saffron bandana,” deputy superintendent of police Bhupender Singh said.Off the record, senior policemen accepted that policemen and women wearing saffron bands were indeed among the crowd as part of a standard operating procedure in such shows.”We had intelligence inputs that attempts to disrupt the roadshow would be made and it turned out to be true as some people raising pro-Modi slogans tried to get close to Digvijaya Singh. The duty of plain-clothed policemen, who camouflage as ordinary workers, is to prevent such people from getting close to the VIPs. A similar strategy was adopted during BJP president Amit Shah’s road show in the evening,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.advertisementlast_img
