But he hasn’t played since December 2017, when Mauricio Pellegrino was manager, after losing his place following a dip in form.The 6ft 7in, six-cap former Newcastle trainee was replaced as first choice by Alex McCarthy, who retained the role throughout Mark Hughes’ nine-month reign and then for the first five games under Hasenhuttl.The Austrian then used Southampton’s last two games, against Chelsea and Derby, to run the rule over England Under-21 stopper Angus Gunn.
