UPDATE About 5000 homes without power supply tonight

first_imgUpdate 9.15pmCREWS FROM THE ESB will resume their work to fix about 1,000 faults that remain on the network overnight, leaving about 5,000 homes without power overnight.A number of staff are still working on individual faults caused by the powerful storm that has gripped Ireland over the past 30 hours. They hope to restore supply to another 5,000 properties tonight.The utility said that some of the damage requires extensive construction work which means about 4,900 customers will continue to be affected.Electricity has been restored to 60,000 properties today but “new faults have been arising”.Additional crews from around the country are being mobilised into the worst affected areas in the southwest and west.The southwest and west are the worst affected areas with more than 400 separate faults.It is expected that up to 1,850 customers will be without supply in the area overnight, while in the midwest about 2,500 homes and businesses out  across Tralee, Newcastlewest and Clare.Arklow and Enniscorthy will see about 280 homes without supply through the night, while another 180 properties in Dublin, Drogheda, Mullingar and Dundalk will be impacted.A number of other small pockets will see outages but the ESB is hoping to keep the number below 4,900.The utility apologised to its customers who have been affected.“This has been one of the worst storms in years,” it said in an earlier statement.We have over 1000 staff working in the field fixing faults and making the network safe. Crews will work late into the evening and will resume first thing tomorrow morning to complete the restoration.ESB Networks is asking customers to report any fallen wires or emergency situations to 1850 372 999.In a statement, it said: “Network Technicians are working as hard as possible to reach all customers as quickly as possible.”A further update is due at noon tomorrow.
